Joint Health Command (JHC)
- Deliver strategic health advice and health governance to support Australian Defence Force capability and operational readiness.
- Provide health leadership and expertise that enables Defence capability while shaping the future of Defence health service delivery and workforce support.
- Lead an integrated workforce of ADF members, APS employees, contractors and health professionals to deliver high quality health services across Australia and overseas.
- Support a healthy, ready and resilient workforce throughout the employee lifecycle, from enlistment through to transition, through the provision of trusted healthcare, workforce support and specialist health expertise.
- Partner with Navy, Army and Air Force to develop, sustain and enhance the Australian Defence Force's deployable health capability in support of current and future operational requirements.
Defence Force Recruiting (DFR)
- Provide medical leadership, occupational health advice and governance oversight that supports workforce generation for the Australian Defence Force.
- Assess and recruit suitable candidates to meet capability requirements, including providing governance, occupational health assessment authority and specialist advice.
- Support the Director General DFR and the DFR Chief Medical Officer (CMO) through leadership, specialist medical advice, policy development and implementation, and compliance oversight, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver efficient, effective and medically sound recruiting outcomes for the Australian Defence Force.
Working as a Medical Officer Level 4 in Defence

The MO4 role will be responsible for the following duties and tasks:
- Provide strategic leadership and expert health advice to support Defence priorities, policy and capability development.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams, workforce development and a positive, high-performing culture.
- Exercise professional delegations as outlined in relevant APS and Defence policy.
- Develop and implement health policies, programs and strategies to improve service delivery and organisational outcomes.
- Ensure effective governance, quality assurance, risk management and compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
- Prepare strategic advice, briefs and reports for senior leaders and key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across Defence, government and external agencies.
- Represent Defence in governance forums and contribute to research, evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote integration across health systems to enhance workforce health, readiness and operational outcomes.
- Undertake other duties as directed.
