A buzzworthy eye injury

Seeing is bee-lieving
Corneal bee sting

An hour after getting stung in the cornea, a 22-year-old man made a beeline for ED with redness, pain and decreased vision.

While he had 20/20 vision in his right eye, the patient reported seeing only hand movements close to his face with the left.

Ocular examination of the affected eye revealed diffuse corneal haziness caused by oedema, as well as a stinger still lodged in the cornea surrounded by infiltrates.

“Corneal bee stings, although rare, can have manifestations ranging from mild irritation to vision loss,” ophthalmologists warned in the New England Journal of Medicine.
