SARS-CoV-2 infection of airway cells

Striking, almost other-worldy new images, released in the New England Journal of Medicine this week, show the ferocity with which SARS-CoV-2 invades the human airway.

Assistant Professor Camille Ehre of North Carolina School of Medicine’s Marsico Lung Institute, US, inoculated human bronchial epithelial cells with SARS-CoV-2 in a laboratory setting.

The ratio of virus particles to targeted airway cells (multiplicity of infection) was 3:1.
