The danger of a disappearing face

What is missing from this scan says everything

When an MRI produced this scout scan sans face, doctors had to put pedal to the metal to avoid a potentially life-threatening situation.

The three-year-old patient presented with a 10-day history of URTI symptoms and five days of a productive cough and fever.

On the day of admission, the boy’s parents also noticed diffuse swelling and redness of the forehead and the right orbital region.

While acute sinusitis was suspected, physical examination was uneventful, and a detailed inspection of the ears and nose was hampered by an unco-operative child.
