‘Luckiest girl in the world’ survives knitting needle in her brain

Knit one, purl one, put one straight through your thalamus

This shocking yarn, published in the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Case Reports, is exactly why you were told not to jump on the bed.

A three-year-old girl was playing with a knitting needle — pretending it was a wand — and jumping on the bed when she fell off.

The needle went into her mouth, penetrating the left side of her palate.

After rushing to an ED, a CT scan showed the object “extending through the hard palate, then cranially through the sphenoid bone just to the right of the pituitary gland and the sella, traversing into the suprasellar cistern and terminating in the region of the medial right thalamus”.
