Medical Must-See: Anaemia unmasks ‘beast’ in man’s stomach
When a 67-year-old man was admitted to hospital with fluid overload, his doctors were not expecting to find cheetah-like spots covering his upper gastrointestinal tract.
The patient had a history of diabetes, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
He was on a dozen medications, including amlodipine, hydralazine, furosemide, glipizide, atorvastatin, omeprazole and iron polymaltose.
During admission for IV diuretics, the doctors noted normochromic normocytic anaemia with a haemoglobin of 85g/L.
