Medical Must-See: Delayed thoracic endometriosis diagnosis nearly ends in tragedy

Doctors initially blamed her cyclical chest pain and dyspnoea on anxiety or infections.

This Polish teacher went through multiple pneumothoraces, years of pain and a suicide attempt before doctors finally diagnosed her thoracic endometriosis.

The 42-year-old mother of two reported having severe dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia since menarche in 1996.

By 2019, she had started reporting cyclical chest pain and dyspnoea, which doctors initially blamed on anxiety or infections.

From 2020, she had recurrent pneumothoraces, which were variously treated with video-assisted thoracoscopic procedures (VATS) pleurectomy, wedge resection or conservative management.
