Medical Must-See: Doctors discover ‘tuft’ of fur inside patient’s thumb

Hairdressers, farmers and sheep shearers share the same occupational hazard

Like a dog with a bone, ED doctors got to the root of their patient’s swollen and painful thumb.

The man, in his 60s, reported a three-day history of acute-onset and rapidly progressive pain and swelling in the right thumb, his dominant hand.

He denied any trauma and was a dog groomer by trade.

On examination, doctors noted smooth swelling over the volar aspect of distal phalanx.
