Medical Must-See: Doctors investigate teen’s pelvic pain, leaving no stone unturned

The 14-year-old patient had experienced recurrent UTIs for years.

This teenage girl’s persistent pelvic pain had a cause rarely seen in modern developed countries: a giant bladder stone, measuring 7.5×5.3cm.

The patient, 14, had years of recurrent UTIs and intermittent lower abdomen discomfort, and reported habitual urinary retention but not dysuria.

After conducting a transvaginal ultrasound, her gynaecologist identified the large bladder stone and referred her to a major urology department in Luxembourg.

The hospital doctors noted lower abdominal tenderness but were unable to palpate a mass.
