Iranian surgeons have removed a 4cm x 4cm aneurysmal sac after diagnosing an idiopathic left internal iliac artery aneurysm in an 11-year-old boy.

The previously healthy patient had experienced two months of severe abdominal pain before his admission to hospital.

Blood work and sonography failed to reveal any abnormalities, but a CT scan uncovered the aneurysm.

While paediatric aneurysms are usually associated with trauma or collagen vascular diseases, in this case, no underlying cause could be identified, the doctors wrote in the Journal of Medical Case Reports.
