Medical Must-See: Doctors roped into foreign object insertion case

Abdominal ultrasound revealed the bladder was filled with a large object accompanied by acoustic shadows

Just when doctors thought they’d seen it all when it comes to foreign objects in body orifices, along comes a patient with a bladder chock full of skipping rope.

How or why the 79-year-old man inserted the 2.3m length of nylon — mercifully, with the handles removed — into his urethra remains a mystery.

When the patient presented to a hospital in Japan complaining of dysuria, he initially kept quiet about the foreign body insertion.

Unsurprisingly, an explanation for his symptom eluded his doctors at the Dokkyo Medical University Nikko Medical Center.
