Medical Must-See: Gymnast’s accidental dismount causes rare dislocation

Given its rarity, there is no consensus on treating this type of dislocation, say orthopaedic surgeons.

A Japanese girl’s tumble from the horizontal bars during gymnastics practice left her with a rare sternum dislocation.

The girl, aged 10, reported minor anterior chest pain despite landing on her back.

A day later, her chest pain worsened, including while bending, walking and raising her arms.

Orthopaedic surgeons from two Honshu hospitals recorded no swelling, anterior chest deformation, limb paralysis or respiratory issues.
