Medical Must-See: Liar, liar, skin on fire
A friend’s advice to take a “bee venom” supplement called ‘Tawon Liar’ for muscle pain had a sting in its tail when a man developed a purplish rash on his arms and legs.
The 53-year-old patient had a history of psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis, which had previously been treated with adalimumab injections.
On physical examination, the doctors found palpable purpura on the lower extremities. Dermoscopy revealed dark pink and purple spots, according to the study published in the Journal of Medical Case Reports.
The team noted groups of erythematous papules on the arms, with dotted blood vessels and clusters of white pustules.
