Medical Must-See: Doctors remove phone cable from man’s urethra
The patient gave a 'vague and inconsistent' initial history, doctors said.
This British man lived for a decade with a self-inserted telephone cable in his urethra before he presented to doctors with urinary retention and sepsis.
The patient, aged in his 60s, reported a one-week history of penile pain and swelling, along with increasing difficulty voiding.
His penis was tender, diffusely swollen and erythematous, with an irretractable foreskin. There was no urethral discharge or evidence of Fournier’s gangrene.
The initial history was “vague and inconsistent”, said the case authors from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
