Medical Must-See: Man survives accidentally shooting nail into his eye
They say hindsight is 20/20 — perhaps a cruel maxim in the case of a construction worker who experienced a transorbital penetrating brain injury after shooting a nail gun into his eye.
The 30-year-old man presented to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Malaysia, with headache, loss of vision and bleeding from the left eye.
As reported by his doctors, he had been using a pneumatic nail gun — which typically fire at a speed of 45.7m/s — without protective goggles.
“When the nail gun jammed, he checked it through the gun barrel and accidentally fired the nail gun onto his left eye,” they wrote in Cureus.
