This patient’s earlobe augmentation left her with more than extra volume.

The woman in her 30s presented to doctors in China with a five-day history of a swollen, erythematous and painful earlobe.

Her symptoms began immediately after a cosmetic earlobe augmentation procedure in which 0.5mL of hyaluronic acid filler was injected into each earlobe using a 27-gauge needle, her doctors wrote in The BMJ.

They described the left earlobe as oedematous and erythematous, with areas of dusky mottling. It was warm and tender on palpation, and capillary refill was delayed beyond three seconds.
