Medical Must-See: Perineal pain points to rare thrombosis
The dangers of self-medicating became all too clear for one US man whose “inappropriate” sildenafil use gave rise to a rare and abnormal thrombus formation in his penile erectile tissue.
Doctors at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, say the 39-year-old patient presented with a three-day history of severe right groin and perineal pain that began after sexual intercourse.
He reported intermittent use of sildenafil 50mg several times a week despite the absence of erectile dysfunction.
His medical history was otherwise unremarkable, with no past priapism, mechanical trauma, drug use, prolonged air travel or vigorous sexual activity.
