Medical Must-See: Rare septal mucocele is nothing to sneeze at
Doctors say the cystic lesion is less common in women and that idiopathic cases are extremely rare.
A minor nasal symptom in a Portuguese woman has led to the fourth reported case of idiopathic nasal septal mucocele.
The patient, aged in her 50s, had experienced progressively worsening painless left-sided nasal obstruction over the course of a year.
She had no history of nasal symptoms, trauma or surgery and no discharge, rhinorrhoea, anosmia or bleeding.
Clinicians noted swelling of the left septal mucosa, while nasal endoscopy showed a small bulging lesion in the anterosuperior nasal septum, with no discharge, polypoid change or ulceration.
