Clostridioides difficile is best known as a gut pathogen causing severe diarrhoea and colitis.
But in this case, it turned up deep inside a patient’s tibia.
Writing in BMJ Case Reports, US clinicians say the male patient was aged in his 70s with chronic kidney disease, AF, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and a previous cerebrovascular accident.
While living in aged care, he was assessed for a longstanding, prominent, fluctuant mass anteriorly on his right lower leg.
