A woman in her 30s presented to an Indian hospital with a rare cause of stroke — a tiger attack that had dissected her left internal carotid artery.

The woman arrived at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, northern India, about two hours after being attacked by the tiger in a forested field.

“She had multiple penetrating puncture wounds over the left side of the neck, involving zone II (between the cricoid cartilage and angle of the mandible), with associated soft tissue laceration and oedema,” her doctors wrote in BMJ Case Reports.

She was compromised with tachycardia (pulse: 124/min) and hypotension (BP: 82/54mmHg) with a haemoglobin level of 78g/L, necessitating packed red blood cell transfusion. Her Glasgow Coma Scale was 13.
