Medical Must-See: Toddler’s tiny injury leads to rare fungal infection

A minor eye wound turned into a major infection for a 15-month-old girl from Pakistan, who developed potentially lethal mucormycosis despite nothing to suggest she was immunocompromised.

But over three weeks, her left eye began bulging, displaying severe swelling, proptosis and redness.
A CT scan revealed sinusitis in her right ethmoid and maxillary sinuses, with an orbital mass.
