Tired of wearing glasses every day, one man opted for the liberation of laser eye surgery, only to have his face mask — that thing you also have to wear every day — catch on his healing cornea.

The 26-year-old patient had just undergone femtosecond laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in both eyes, with the well-centred LASIK flaps confirmed on slit-lamp examination.

But the next day, the patient presented with sudden diminution of vision in the right eye, as well as mild pain and watering.

He reported that, four hours after surgery, he had been adjusting his disposable N95 face mask when he inadvertently thrust it up, causing the edge to hit his right eye.
