In a rare slip-up, a patient accidentally inserted her birth-control device into her bladder.

After reading the instruction leaflet, the 22-year-old inadvertently placed her NuvaRing — a combined hormonal contraceptive device – into her urethra instead of her vagina.

Over the course of a day, she noticed gradual-onset suprapubic discomfort, dysuria, urgency and frequency.

She presented to her GP 24 hours later concerned about her symptoms.
