Vape blows hole in teen’s jaw

A teen in the US breathed in on an e-cigarette and blew a hole in his jaw, when the device exploded in his face, puncturing his chin and shattering his mandible and teeth.
The 17-year-old presented to an ED two hours later, where a CT revealed a comminuted and displaced mandibular fracture with disruption of several lower incisors.
Surgeons carried out an open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture, dental extraction and debridement of the devitalised tissue.
In a case report in the New England Journal of Medicine, the doctors warned that “the increasing prevalence of vaping among adolescents is a public health concern”.
