In a misguided attempt at faster inebriation, a woman decided to partake of an alcoholic beverage PR.

The 23-year-old circumvented the oral route — and first-pass effect, whereby the concentration of alcohol is greatly reduced before it reaches systemic circulation — by having her partner funnel 90mL of vodka into her anus.

She then experienced a bout of alcohol-induced amnesia before developing severe lower abdominal pain, bright red bleeding PR and four episodes of vomiting.

When the woman presented to ED seven hours later, she did not appear inebriated and had a normal blood alcohol level.
