$19 million paid out under COVID-19 vax compo scheme

The single largest claim to date was $2.2 million.

The Federal Government has compensated 256 patients for severe COVID-19 vaccine side effects under its vaccine claims scheme, which will close to new applicants on 30 September.

The total amount of compensation has reached $18.8 million as of 17 January.

However, a median payout of just $5600 suggests there have been a handful of very high-cost cases and many more low-cost cases.

“Pericarditis and myocarditis are the most common diagnosed conditions in relation to which compensation is paid,” says a federal Department of Health and Aged Care spokesperson.
