$190 million deal struck to return embattled hospital to public hands

ASMOF has welcomed the move, but the AMA said there must not be any reduction in private services.

The beleaguered Northern Beaches Hospital is set to become publicly owned after the State Government reached an in-principle agreement to take over the hospital for $190 million.

The major Sydney hospital has been riddled with scandals under the ownership of Healthscope, Australia’s second-largest hospital operator, which is in the hands of receivers.

Under the in-principle agreement, the State Government will buy the Northern Beaches Hospital building and all of its 494 beds for $190 million.

All clinical and support staff at the hospital will receive job offers from NSW Health and their staff entitlements will be transferred in a transition expected to be completed by mid-2026.
