$257 for bulk-billed IUD insertion — these are Mark Butler’s new contraception Medicare items

Medicare items for inserting IUDs or contraceptive implants would have 40% loading if bulk-billed, in addition to rebates more than doubling, under the Federal Government’s plan.
Alongside its election pledge that pharmacists would diagnose and prescribe S4 antibiotics for UTIs, the government wants to introduce a new MBS item for a menopause health assessment with a rebate of $101.90 this July.
It also wants to significantly boost MBS item 35503 for IUD insertion and MBS items 14206 and 30062, for insertion and removal of a contraceptive implant, respectively (see table below).
MBS item 35506 for removal of embedded or retained IUD under general anaesthesia would also rise from $61.15 to $134.44.
