Young men with body dissatisfaction are more likely to see a personal trainer than talk about their feelings with a GP, a study suggests.

They also see body image issues as a mainly female domain and seek professional help only as a “last resort”, according to the University of Queensland researchers.

“Participants described their belief that men were expected to ‘quit whining’, ‘drink a cup of concrete’ or ‘cop it on the chin’,” they write in Clinical Psychologist.

Previous studies have shown that body dissatisfaction in men has increased in recent years, with disordered eating among males growing at a greater rate than in women.
