40 pharmacists qualify as ‘doctors’ after new title applied to existing degrees

Students partway through master’s degrees at two universities were given the title 'doctor' on graduation this year.

Forty graduate pharmacists can already call themselves ‘doctor’ despite not knowing they would receive the title when they started their degrees.

Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler announced last year that pharmacists who completed an extended master’s degree could call themselves ‘doctors’, similar to certain dentists, vets, optometrists and physiotherapists.
