5.4 million more bulk-billed GP consults a year thanks to tripled incentives: Mark Butler
More than 40% of the bulk-billed consults were in rural or remote Australia, the minister said.
The GP bulk-billing rate has climbed from 75.6% to 77.3% in the year since tripled bulk-billing incentives began, says Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler.
The October 2024 bulk-billing rate was slightly lower than December 2023, but Mr Butler said it still equated to an extra 5.4 million bulk-billed GP consultations over the past year.
Some 2.2 million were in rural Australia, he added.
For GPs in the most remote areas, the bulk-billing incentive for eligible consultations is up to $41.10, compared with $21.35 in cities.
