Using marijuana may have an impact on conception for couples with subfertility or infertility, but does not seem to pose a problem for those with no fertility issues, Canadian researchers say.
Researchers have reviewed the latest studies on marijuana and fertility to create an article and a podcast for doctors.
Lead author Dr Sara Ilnitsky, a reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellow at Western University, London, Ontario, says little is known about the effects of marijuana on fertility, and their literature research shows good-quality research is lacking.
“We wanted to help inform healthcare providers about what we do and do not know about marijuana’s effect on fertility,” she says in the CMAJ podcast.
