A selfie can be used to predict 90-day survival for patients with cancer, researchers claim
AI can predict a cancer patient’s likelihood of dying within 90 days by assessing an ordinary photograph of their face, researchers say.
Their study was based on assessing the images of some 38,000 US cancer patients treated with radiotherapy.
It found that patients whom AI assessed as looking more than five years older than their real age had a 21% higher risk of death during a median follow-up of about four years.
In contrast, those who appeared at least five years younger had a 17% lower risk.
