A third of GPs ‘rarely or never use’ My Health Record for patient care

The college wants the digital record improved to better share information with GP practice software.

Figures showing that almost one in three GPs rarely use the multibillion-dollar My Health Record underline the desperate need for a Federal Government fix, the RACGP says.

The college has called for an overhaul of the system, subbed a “shoebox for PDFs”, after its upcoming annual Health of the Nation survey found widespread indifference among the 3000 GPs polled.

“It should share information with GP practice software and notify GPs when patients records are updated to support patient care and safety,” said RACGP president Dr Nicole Higgins.

“Automation will also make it more useable, such as automating data capture from GP records when patients consent.”
