In December last year, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists joined calls for widespread breast density reporting to inform patients of their individual risk.

The endorsement represented a 180 degree turn on the college’s 2016 stance.

In an interview with AusDoc, Associate Professor Michelle Reintals, the chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) Breast Imaging Advisory Committee, explains the evidence behind the change and the next steps.

AusDoc: In its 2016 position statement, RANZCR did not endorse population-wide reporting of breast density. Why has the college changed its stance?
