AHPRA adopts contested anti-Semitism definition to guide investigations
AHPRA has adopted a definition of anti-Semitism that includes denying Jewish people the right to self-determination, denying the Holocaust, or comparing contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
In a media statement on Wednesday, it said it would use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism as a “reference tool … to support a consistent understanding of anti-Semitism in its contemporary forms in our regulatory work”.
Published in 2016, the definition describes anti-Semitism as “a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews”, saying it can be directed at Jewish or non-Jewish people, their property, Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.
Under the definition, the alliance lists examples that “could, taking into account the overall context” represent anti-Semitism, including:
