AHPRA cuts rego fees by 30% for doctors on long-term leave

Doctors who take six months of parental, disability or carer’s leave will receive a 30% fee rebate, AHPRA has announced.
It follows a long campaign by doctors against AHPRA’s registration fees, with AMA Victoria president Dr Jill Tomlinson last month describing the lack of pro rata fee options as “unfair”, “unjust” and “inefficient”.
On Monday, AHPRA said that doctors who took six months or more of parental leave in the 2024-25 registration year — 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025 — would be able to apply for a fee rebate of $308 after 1 July 2025.
“We have listened to the sector and the concerns of practitioners and today is an important first step to address the issues of fee relief for those on parental leave,” AHPRA CEO Martin Fletcher said in a statement.
