AHPRA fast track to specialist registration attracts its first 50 overseas doctors

Nearly 50 doctors from overseas have applied to the Medical Board of Australia’s fast-track pathway to work as specialist GPs in Australia.
The controversial pathway, which sidelines ACRRM and the RACGP from assessing doctors as fit to practice before they are granted specialist registration, opened just over three weeks ago.
Currently, only doctors with specialist GP qualifications from the UK, Ireland and New Zealand can apply, although other qualifications are likely to be added over time.
The system is also being expanded at the end of the year to bring in overseas anaesthetists, obstetricians and gynaecologists, and psychiatrists with other medical specialties to follow.
