AHPRA reduces formal investigations by 79% as low-risk cases closed more quickly
AHPRA says it has cut the number of new investigations a month from 93 to 20 as it weeds out more baseless complaints and closes more complaints with case reviews, reflection or education.
The watchdog also says 54% of all notifications in July-September were closed within three months compared with 37% before its more detailed triage system was introduced.
The figures have emerged after AHPRA’s annual meeting with the AMA.
Back in 2022, Medical Board of Australia chair Dr Anne Tonkin said a new triage committee was focused on slashing time frames for dealing with complaints.
