AHPRA says 29 doctors facing complaints over Israel–Gaza war comments

Doctors have been reported to AHPRA over social media posts on the Israel–Palestine war, with the watchdog currently “making enquiries” into 29 doctors and 10 other health practitioners.
AHPRA said overall 59 health practitioners had been subject to complaints since early October when hostilities broke out, but no cases had progressed to a formal investigation so far.
The watchdog stressed there were only limited grounds on which it and the National Boards could investigate or consider taking action against a health professional.
“Regulatory action (sanctions) may be considered if the way a practitioner expresses their views presents a risk to public safety/risks the public’s confidence in their profession or requires action to maintain professional standards.
