AI for answering clinical and MBS questions set to be integrated with Best Practice this year

MedLuma could help navigate information overload, says Associate Professor Stephen Barnett.

A CPD provider has developed an AI that answers questions on Medicare and medicine, aiming to integrate it with Best Practice software by mid-2026.

Launched by Medcast last week in browser form, the MedLuma large language model answers questions from “How do I bill MBS item 695?” to “How do I manage newly diagnosed hypertension?”

Medcast co-founder Associate Professor Stephen Barnett says answers are based on four million pages of Australian and international guidelines and evidence, including the RACGP Red Book and Stroke Foundation content, as well as the full MBS and information on referral pathways.

Once added to Best Practice, MedLuma will be integrated into 80% of GP desktop computers.
