AI producing medical notes for more than 10,000 consults a day, says Lyrebird boss

Doctors are using AI scribes to draft medical notes in more than 10,000 consult a day, claims Lyrebird co-founder Kai Van Lieshout.
While the numbers suggest a rapid uptake of the technology across the medical profession, there are concerns the TGA has been missing in action when it comes to scrutinising the safety of the scribes.
Mr Lieshout acknowledges that the best AI systems are not infallible and that doctors must remain vigilant in their care.
“We think it is really important to prevent doctors blindly accepting AI drafts of their notes by having a user interface that prompts GPs to always check the output that is being created,” he told AusDoc.
