All NIP vaccines should be covered by no-fault compensation: RACGP

The RACGP wants a no-fault compensation scheme covering serious side effects of any National Immunisation Program vaccine, saying it would recognise that patients getting vaccinated are protecting the broader community.
An indemnity scheme for COVID-19 vaccination – originally promised by the Federal Government back in June – is still under development.
The aim is for patients who experience severe side effects to be compensated directly by the government rather than having to sue the medical practitioner who oversaw the vaccination.
While GPs are still covered by their MDOs, the scheme would significantly reduce the risk of them being dragged into the court system.
