Allegations from the public that AHPRA is gagging doctors from speaking out about COVID-19 vaccines have surged, according to the ombudsman responsible for dealing with complaints about the watchdog.

The ombudsmen has received about 370 complaints and inquiries about AHPRA and the national boards, including the Medical Board of Australia, during the past week, compared to just 19 the previous week.

Most complaints related to AHPRA and board statements about COVID-19 vaccination, said the office of the National Health Practitioner Ombudsman and Commissioner.

“For example, some people have raised concerns that doctors are being prevented from providing advice about COVID-19 vaccinations due to fear of investigation by AHPRA,” the office said in a statement to 6minutes.
