AMA concerned over naming domestic violence perpetrators

Doctors are being asked to identify alleged perpetrators of domestic violence against their patients under a new scheme to help victims escape abuse from partners.
Laws have been introduced in NSW this year allowing victims to immediately cancel any tenancy agreements if their doctor signs a declaration form confirming the abuse is taking place.
Doctors are involved because of fears victims might not feel comfortable going to the police or engaging in the justice system.
But the AMA NSW is now warning that doctors are being asked to “assess a degree of guilt” when, in some situations, they will have only limited details of what is happening.
