AMA launches new campaign against pharmacist independent prescribing
The AMA has opened fire on independent prescribing by pharmacists warning it’s being rolled out by states and territories with no appropriate trials or clinical governance.
Launching its national campaign called You Deserve More, it says it wants to highlight the “flaws of go-it-alone” prescribing.
“We’ve looked at comparable countries and Australia is an outlier in progressing with autonomous pharmacy prescribing,” AMA president Professor Steve Robson said.
“At a time when governments should be developing policies that strengthen general practice and embrace team-based care, they have chosen to short-change the community and resorted to experimenting with models like this,” he said.
