AMA members to vote on state AMA’s viability lifeline

A vote at the AMA’s AGM later this month will determine whether Tasmania becomes a branch of the Federal AMA rather than an independent entity.
AMA Tasmania raised the prospect of merging earlier this year due to having just four staff to support its 140 members, saying it could share IT and administration resources with the Federal AMA.
A plebiscite of Tasmanian members was 96% in favour of the merger.
However, it will require more than a dozen changes to the AMA constitution so the definition of state or territory AMA includes either a branch of the Federal AMA or an independent entity.
