AMA unveils its vision for general practice in 2030

Access to chronic disease care and telehealth rebates should be dependent on patient registration with their GP, the AMA suggests as part of its long term vision for the specialty.
Dr Tony Bartone outlined the organisation’s wish list for the next decade of primary care reforms last Friday on his final day as AMA president.
He said the coronavirus pandemic had shone a spotlight on the brittle funding underpinning GP care, with some practices relying on JobKeeper welfare payments to survive.
The lack of investment was largely the result of a growing dependence on fee-for-service Medicare rebates and bulk-billing, he said.
