AMA urges caution over lifting state lockdowns

Melbourne's rise in COVID-19 is a 'stark reminder' of how quickly cases can flare up, says president Dr Tony Bartone

As Victorian cases continue to climb and merrymakers in Queensland crowd dance floors, the AMA has urged state governments to press pause on further easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

AMA President Dr Tony Bartone has asked for a temporary freeze on lifting restrictions until the Melbourne hotspots are brought under control.

Amid 127 new cases overnight on Monday, the city has issued lockdown orders to 3000 residents in public housing tower blocks, in addition to the 10 postcodes affected by suburb-wide restrictions.

Meanwhile in Queensland, footage has emerged which is said to be of revellers dancing in a crowded Brisbane nightclub, amid orders that clubs can reopen so long as patrons don’t dance.
