Millions of Australians have been forced back into lockdown this week to suppress the coronavirus infection rate, with the AMA warning of a nationwide “seeding event”.

Most states and territories announced fresh restrictions with new cases being linked to the outbreak in Sydney, which now involves 130 confirmed cases.

“We’re basically having a cross-country seeding event; that’s as simple as that,” AMA president Dr Chris Moy told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age

“It’s beaten the NSW contact tracers. The reliance on contact tracers and holding out [on introducing a lockdown] for a few days has led to seeding across the country.”
